ABOUT

Thomas M. Workman, PhD, LPC, NCC

Licensed Professional Counselor

I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in Pennsylvania with more than 15 years of experience providing mental health treatment. I naturally integrate mindfulness-based practices into my clinical work to enhance the benefits that individuals receive from counseling; however, if you're unsure about mindfulness-based interventions, that’s ok too. We will collaboratively develop a plan to meet your individual needs, even if you’re not sure what they are.

I offer a variety of research-supported treatments including cognitive behavior therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, exposure therapies, and a few others. I will be collaborative and transparent so that you know what to expect from therapy. I communicate with directness and try to integrate my sense of humor into all my work.

I will frequently ask you for feedback to make sure that our time is being put to good use and we are making progress towards our goals. Not every individual and clinician are a great fit for each other, and that’s an unavoidable truth. Your feedback can help us identify any mismatch early, so that adjustments can be made, or another referral can be provided. Brief and free consultations are provided prior to beginning therapy to help us find the right path.

In addition to providing therapy, I work as a full-time professor and program director. I also develop educational content in the domain of research-based treatments for Pennsylvania’s Department of Drug and Alcohol Program. Not only do I enjoy teaching and developing educational content, but these activities have significant positive impacts on my clinical work through keeping my knowledge fresh and active. Personally, I enjoy woodworking, being active, and camping/hiking with my energetic daughter. Personally, and professionally, I like what I do.
